Our Story

Picophotonics is a Finnish SME delivering advanced European laser technology. Our key components, development, and assembly take all place in Finland, ensuring high quality, reliability, and precision. Founded as a spin-off from the Optoelectronics Research Center (ORC) of Tampere University, our company operates in-house cleanroom facilities with full capabilities for custom laser development, manufacturing, and semiconductor processes. For customers committing a laser into a product, this means a transparent, EU-based supply chain, direct access to the engineers who designed the laser, and a partner able to support a system across its lifetime rather than a catalogue line routed through distribution.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between complex mode-locked lasers delivering picosecond pulses and conventional nanosecond Q-switched lasers, providing a robust, compact, and cost-effective solution. Picophotonics microchip technology delivers high-performance short pulses with stable beam quality, making it ideal for portable systems, aerial applications, and precision tabletop instruments.
