Key Properties

Nanosecond pulse duration & high pulse energy

Factory-set 3–6 ns pulse duration paired with pulse energy exceeding 10 µJ, offering plug-and-play high energy pump source for various applications.

1 kHz repetition rate

A fixed, well-defined 1 kHz repetition rate with triggering opportunity. Contact us if your application requires different pulse repetition rate.

Pulse triggering

Optical or electrical trigger-out signal available upon request, supporting precise synchronization with detection and acquisition electronics.

Spectral purity

Spectral width under 0.5 nm at 767.2 nm (±1 nm), with pulse-to-pulse intensity variation under ±5% and power stability better than 2% (1 h) / 5% (12 h) standard deviation.

Compact footprint

140 × 95 × 70 mm including integrated power and control electronics, with a 54 mm optical height — compact enough for OEM integration and benchtop instruments.

Beam Properties

M² < 1.3 beam quality with linearly polarized (1:100) output, available free-space or fiber-coupled, for efficient delivery to the point of measurement.

Applications

Photoacoustic & optoacoustic imaging

767 nm sits close to a physiologically relevant hemoglobin absorption band, making the SP07's combination of high pulse energy and nanosecond pulse duration well suited to photoacoustic and optoacoustic imaging research, where sufficient per-pulse energy is needed to generate a usable acoustic signal.

Detector characterization

Nanosecond pulses, a low-jitter trigger-out signal, and high per-pulse energy make the SP07 well suited for characterizing photodetectors and timing electronics across a range of signal levels.

Long-range sensing & LIDAR

High pulse energy supports longer working distances in ranging and sensing applications, where signal return strength at range is the limiting factor.

Underlying Technology

The SP07 is based on Picophotonics' proprietary Q-switched microchip technology, tuned here for nanosecond pulse durations and higher pulse energy in a compact, alignment-free architecture.

Technology

A simpler alternative to OPO-based sources

Applications requiring nanosecond, high-energy pulses in the 700–800 nm spectral region have traditionally relied on Q-switched, OPO-based sources, where a pump laser and nonlinear crystal are combined to generate the desired output wavelength. While highly versatile, OPO systems typically add size, cost, and alignment complexity.

SP07 generates nanosecond pulses at 767 nm directly from a single compact laser head, where wavelength tunability is not required. Optimized for a dedicated operating wavelength, it provides a simpler, more compact, and more cost-effective solution for lab and OEM integration applications.

Interfaces & Integration

This laser is built to be driven by your system, not babysat by an operator — suited to benchtop research and integrated instruments alike. Available integration interfaces include:

Control & communication

USB and RS-232 control of laser and TEC operation via a documented command interface, so repetition rate, pulse energy and status are under your software's control.

Triggering & synchronization

TTL trigger-in for externally clocked pulse initiation, and a low-jitter optical or electrical trigger-out for precise synchronization with detectors and acquisition.

Optical output & cooling

Free-space or fiber-coupled output with a clean single-frequency spectrum, air or conduction cooling, and documented mounting and thermal-interface guidance.

Compact & robust

An alignment-free, monolithic microchip cavity with no consumable optics holds performance across shock, vibration and temperature — suited to portable, airborne and field-deployed systems.
